It’s almost here! Tomorrow, the English version of Nobody will be released on iTunes and I hope that anyone who’s a fan of the girls, will help support by purchasing the single. The girls will also be having their first performance in front of the American crowd, June 27, 2009, opening for the Jonas Brothers in Portland, OR.

Gosh, I seriously can’t wait for the whole song. =)

A trend, fad, or whatever you call it, the “Hallyu Wave” (or Korean Wave) is slowly waving it’s way through Philippine entertainment. It’s been a long time since the Philippines was crazy over something. The last time a craze sparked in the Philippines was during the “Meteor Garden/ F4” days. Gosh, that was like 9-10 years ago? I remembered everyone sported the “Hua Ze Lei” hair – it was crazy back then. As for the Hallyu wave that’s inching it’s way into the Philippines, will we see the same effect as last time?

So far, the latest craze right now is Korea’s drama version Boys Over Flowers. I don’t know how many times I heard songs from the soundtrack onĀ  TFC (once on Wowwowwee, Asap). It’s just weird when you hear things you already know being broadcasted on tv. Even my mom recognizes the songs on tv asking me numerous times, “Don’t you listen to that?”

Not only are Korean dramas starting to pick up popularity, but also Korean music. I know there’s an official Rain/Bi fanclub, Cloud Philippines, and soon there’ll be a VIP Philippines, Elf Philippines, or even a Wonderful Philippines! From what I’ve seen and heard, I know Big Bang and Wonder Girls music are really popular nowadays playing in clubs and venues, and now TV.

Recently on ASAP ’09, Wonder Girls’ Nobody was being performed. I was surprised, and what seem to be excitement, slowly quickly turned to sheer disappointment and embarrassment. Not only did they not use the original song, they used an English cover they’ve found on youtube which I, unexpectedly, recognized the voice. I thought,” Okay, this is fine, whatever,” but when they did horrendous dancing to the song, I really was cringing with shame. I mean, they could’ve at least did the original dance, it sure was FAR BETTER than any dance moves they could’ve come up with. Don’t get me wrong, the girls that performed are really pretty, and I think 2 of the girls are really good dancers, but them doing this just downgrades the song and Wonder Girls. Being a WG fan, this has got to be the most repulsive performance I’ve seen – even the CEBU prisoners gave a more preferable performance of Nobody.

Just pisses me off just watching it, but to anyone who wants to see, here’s a youtube link to the ASAP performance.

Pissed? Well here’s a segment on the same episode of ASAP, where the Kanto Boys (comprising of Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, and John Lloyd Cruz) become the infamous F4 doing a Meteor Garden/BOF parody. This might just let you release some steam after the bad WG cover performance. Hilarious, I would say. =)

So in conclusion, I’m kinda irked about the Philippines joining in on the Hallyu Wave. Maybe if the Philippines did some justice to the songs and dramas then I would happily change my mind, but for now, I think it’s cool to see some life in Filipino entertainment.
